Suffolk OTB Sends Handicapper To Horseplayer World Series

Edmund Teicht, of Bergen County New Jersey, was surprised when he received a phone call telling him that he was going to the Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada as part of the Coast Casino’s Million Dollar Horseplayer World Series.  With a second-place finish earning winnings of $4000 in Suffolk Regional OTB’s March 2005 contest, Mr. Teicht was surprised to be notified that the first place winner couldn’t make the trip, and that he would have the opportunity to go.

A handicapper since the age of 19, who honed his skills at his home track the Meadowlands, Mr. Teicht described the event saying “My table had an ex-CPA from Portland, OR, a horse breeder from upstate NY, a horse owner from Chicago, who met there with his buddy from San Antonio, and another individual from Kansas City.  Going to tournaments is not just about handicapping, but also the social aspect of meeting people and just having a good time out.”  By the second day of the tournament that camaraderie was an added plus to Teicht’s very respectable 23rd place out of approximately 750 contestants.

Although at the end of the 3-day event he didn’t finish in the money, one of Mr.Teicht’s new friends did.  “You get friendly with people and help cheer each other along,” he said “while wanting to beat them at the same time.”

Mr. Teicht is looking forward to participating in Suffolk Regional OTB’s contest again this month.  He said “It was a wonderful experience you (SROTB) are doing a nice thing by offering the World Series of Handicapping Trip. I got back home and realized that my trip to Las Vegas cost me nothing. The whole thing was just a blast.”
